The Artist Speaks
"Jupiter and the Art of Wu Wei" is about the layering of various elements to describe a larger theme. One element is the character Jupiter who believes in the Taoist principle of Wu Wei. This principle (roughly described) is the art of taking life's conflicts in stride, even learning to dance with them, rather than allowing conflicts to destroy you. Another layer is the planet Jupiter itself. Objects which enter our solar system with the potential to destroy the Earth are drawn to the gas giant instead because of its great mass. Another element is borrowed from the Wheel of Fortune tarot card. This card represents the various conflicts that life might bring our way. The sun rising out of the water is a reference to egyptian mythology and symbolizes the birth of consciousness. With all of these elements combined the unifying theme of the image is that it depicts the way the character Jupiter views the world.
