The Artist Speaks
The Imnaha Mountains are located in the Hell's Canyon Wilderness Area on the eastern border of Oregon. The area is very dry with little but the Imnaha River to provide moisture. A few years ago I went camping with my wife in this rolling wilderness. We drove on a one lane gravel road that traced the folding mountain sides. The vastness of the area and the subtle color variations intrigued me the most about this place. The next day we emerged from the wilderness and stopped at a general store to purchase some refreshment. Inside there was a plain white freezer with a large scorecard attached to it. This scorecard displayed the number of snake bite victims versus snakes caught for the big rattlesnake and bear feed to be held later that year. I noticed that "Jake's Bike" had been bitten twice.
